Meetings in Helsinki.

In June 2014 NTA visited ORNAMO/TEXO and SKY - Suomen Käsityn Ystävät in Helsinki for discussions on the next Nordic Textile Meeting in Finland. It was decided that the meeting will be in March 20th- 22nd 2015

NTA visits ORNAMO/TEXO.

The meeting started with a warm welcome and an orientation on ORNAMO from Petra Ilonen, project manager of Ornamo.

ORNAMO is the second oldest existing organisation for designers in the world, the oldest being Svenska Slöjdföreningen now FORM, founded in the 19th century.

ORNAMO is a member of NORDIC DESIGN IMPACT, aiming at promoting Nordic Design in the world. ORNAMO has over 2100 members. There are five organisations within ORNAMO, one of them is TEXO for textile artists and designers.

Apart from the memberships fees ORNAMO is partly supported by the Finnish government. ORNAMO runs projects and exhibitions.  See also www.ornamo.fi

Juha Laurikainen gave an orientation on TEXO which was founded 1956. TEXO has 359 regular members + student members. TEXO:s 50th anniversary in 2016 will be celebrated by the Finnish Textile Triennial in Tampere. There will be a catalogue of the triennial and a history of TEXO will be published. A triennial of mini textiles will take place in 2015 – maybe in the autumn.

NTA /NTC VISITS SKY - SUOMEN KÄSITYN YSTÄVÄT.

NTA were warmly greeted at SKY by Sirpa Linnanmäki and Elina Helenius and were given a tour of the studio and office.

Sirpa presented the SKY projects and talked of the challenges of being a 150 year old company in a modern world, working with artists and architects. www.kasityonystavat.fi
