Kari Hjertholm works in her brand new studio by Nordåsvannet near Bergen. Visitors are welcome on request.
For years she has been making large-sized textiles, kept on a scale between black and white. Recently this has been changing. Coloured filaments protrude from a background material of a different colour. A transparent surface appears, the colours partly blending with each other. The material is shaped and processed so that the appearance changes as the spectator moves in the room.
Quietness and calm are keynotes to many of Hjertholm´s work; monumentality at a distance and another kind of detailed experience up close. The light is a key player across the tactile surface.
Hjertholm has a keen interest in architecture, and in creating art for public spaces, she relates to the room actively, striving to enhance its qualities both visually and audially.
